I have a 2015 Macbook pro, so I do not have the dvi port needed to plug in the Wacom Cintiq 18SX. It also has a VGA cable, so I suppose I could use that as well.
I figure that I will need a thunderbolt to dvi adapter (maybe something like ), but I am not sure. The adapter I have linked has a dvi-i output, which I believe is what the 18SX needs (as opposed to dvi-d). Does that seem like it would work, or will I have to upgrade my cintiq (I really don't want to do that đ)? Thanks in advance! I use a Thunderbolt to DVI adapter and it works fine. I can't remember if it is DVI-I or DVI-D right now, mine's connected and I don't like disconnecting this finicky beast.

The newest driver / System Preferences Pane written for this model that I have found is 6.2.0-w4, posted 25 Jan 2012 on Wacom's Asian driver site. I'm pretty sure this is the one I'm using now, I've tried quite a few. The US site, has old drivers from the early 2000's to their newest one, 6.17-5, posted 02 Nov 2011. The reason I am giving you these driver locations is that, until this morning, my 18SX was working fine with El Capitan and my late 2013 iMac connected by Thunderbolt to DVI adapter, and a USB for the stylus. The Wacom Tablet pane in the System Preferences would not open, so I could not calibrate the stylus and cursor, but the cursor was aligned with the stylus point enough to allow me to edit my photographs.
This morning, although nothing has changed that I can tell, the cursor is now on another display when using the 18SX. The cursor responds to the stylus, it is just on the wrong screen. I haven't played enough with it yet to give up, but wanted to let you know - it's a chore to keep this Cintiq working. There has also been a very long discussion here with a lot of things to try, some of them work for some people.
I'll let you know if I get mine working again. I just posted this on the other discussion. Most of it may not apply to you, if you have not previously installed Wacom drivers on your Mac. But, if you try to use the Cintiq, I recommend loading the WacomTabletDriver into the Login Items of your Users & Groups System Preferences pane. I mention how I did that below. I used different parts of this thread and, after the 18SX stopped working today, was able to re-install the drivers using the following technique. I had tried the uninstall and reinstall method a few times with the different driverâs mentioned, with no success. Then I read the post by voivod08 about using the terminal to remove all the garbage left behind that Wacomâs removal software didnât. With warnings like âWATCH OUT for typos as rm will delete mercilessly!!!!â, Iâd rather avoid that. (I donât think I got enough exclamation marks) Instead I used EasyFind, a free utility by DEVONtechnologies and available on the App Store. Searching my entire hard drive for âWacomâ, I found a lot of kernel,.plist, pref, library and other files that were still there. I got rid of them all, even the Safari web histories and crash reports.
I emptied the trash and restarted. I installed the latest driver listed for my Wacom Display, 6.2.0-w4, which I found posted on Wacomâs Asia driver site, posted 25 Jan, 2012.

I had tried to add the WacomTabletDriver to the Login Items of my Users & Groups pane in System Preferences, as recommended previously, but I could not find it using the search window in the Add file window. Again, I used EasyFind to locate the driver at My Mac HD/Library/ApplicationSupport/Tablet. I followed the path in the Add window and checked it to hide the driver when I log in.
I would assume that others would use the latest driver listed for their tablet or display. Apple Footer.
