I usually run my host Mac (10.5 Yosemite) hooked up to the internet with an ethernet cord, not via WiFi. The internet connection goes right through to the Windows 10 guest (Anniversary ed. 1607) with no problems. Today I tried to use WiFi only. On the Mac side all's well, but no internet is getting through to the Windows guest. I looked at my VM settings Network. I have only Adapter 1 in use.

It is set to 'Bridged Adapter', and the name is 'en0: Ethernet'. Do I need to use another adapter (say, 'Adapter 2') for WiFi? If so, what settings do I need? Or do I just need to switch to a 'NAT' or 'NAT Network' setting for Adapter 1? (Seems there was a reason I used 'Bridged Adapter' when I set this up, but I don't recall now.:( BTW, I did try to search the forums, but didn't find anything that would help me. I'm sure it's there, but I didn't find it. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Bridging to wireless is not really bridging. The guest shares the MAC of the host and the host does a sort of MAC-NAT translation based on IP addresses.

Promiscuous mode doesn't exist in the official WLAN specifications. It may or may not work. Some combinations of Routers/Access Points, WLAN cards and drivers work, some don't. See: and add your experience.

For example, it works fine in my home, but not in my office. Same laptop, same VM. Vboxuser799 wrote:Today I tried to use WiFi only. And as a person that should be wearing his glasses 24/7 but doesn't, I completely missed the other part about the bridging.

Thank you Bill for catching that!!! @vboxuser799 The easiest, hassle free option is to use the NAT, if you simply want to access the internet. Bridged (as the word says) uses one of your network adapters as a 'bridge' to connect to the network just like another physical computer. Which network adapter you choose is up to you in that drop-down box. If you want to use your WiFi adapter to connect via wireless to the network, you have to select 'en1: Wi-Fi (Airport)'. You don't have to add another adapter, although you could if you want to be flexible and not change the configuration depending on which actual network adapter you use. So you could have two virtual adapters in your VM, one Bridged to 'en0' and one Bridged to 'en1'.

The caveats in my previous message are still valid. BillG wrote:If you want to use your WiFi adapter to connect via wireless to the network, you have to select 'en1: Wi-Fi (Airport)'.
